World's first Master in Beatles, Popular music and Society |
|
CAMPUS ROCK
|
Liverpool Hope University has launched a brand new MA in The Beatles, Popular Music and Society, the first of its kind in the world. The new course( full and part time), has four modules with specific issues relating to The Beatles and Popular Music, There are 12-week taught modules, plus a dissertation.
'There have been over 8,000 books about The Beatles but there has never been serious academic study and that is what we are going to address.',says Mike Brocken, Senior Lecturer.
This MA is expected to attract a great deal of attention, not just locally but nationally and we have already had enquiries from abroad, particularly the United States.
''The Beatles, Popular Music and Society' marks a seminal advance in popular music studies. For the first time in the UK and possibly the world, a postgraduate taught course is offered to research into The Beatles, the city from which they emerged, the contexts of the 1960s, technology, sound and songwriting and the industries that have set up in their wake to capitalise on tourism in the city of Liverpool.' Shouting Silences by Kanav Gupta, KMC |
|
Poetry
|
|
SHOUTING SILENCES
When words fail,
Silences prevail.
From the closet of their deathliness
They carp aloud, they shout aloud.
Like the sunlight prevails,
Through the thickness of the cloud.
Oh when the worlds clashed for space,
When the ‘rulers’ struck greatness.
Or when the fuehrers salvaged their grace.
When the Generals slayed to impress.
There lay a man strayed and broken,
And sat an infant dumb with the Atom.
Looking at the same dead woman
Who fed him through her very shattered bosom.
Oh yes! They did not speak
For around them was a corpse-crowd.
But their silences prevail through the closet of deathliness
They carp aloud, they shout aloud.
Like the sunlight always prevails
Through the thickness of the cloud.

Poetry
|
Winds of change blew
And all autumn leaves fall
I close my eyes
And just a tear drops
Shiver do I in cold
Warmth from separated do I gather
I forget distant means far
Seeking new avenues they are
Shiver I again
Rare droplets excoriate the pain
Momentary is the relief
Excruciatingly another leaf falls
And the callous sun bares all
Scorching my skin
Blistering my feet
So numb from treading they are
But walk they will always
Bleed they will
But walk will they always
Will they?
For unremitting is the battle
Adversary’s huge army
Disrupt my cheerful solitude
Slippery are grains of hopes
Reflecting pallid blue in my hands

Nidhi Batra
