JNCASR - Summer Research Fellowships Programme

The Centre offers summer fellowships for two months to bright undergraduate and MSc students (renewable for a second year for selected students). This programme has proved to be popular and competitive; each year, about 5000 students from all over India apply for the 120 fellowships awarded. Fifty fellowships are supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, fifteen by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, and the rest by the Centre. Students are placed with research groups at the Centre or with scientists else where in India. They are paid travel expenses and a monthly stipend of Rs. 5000. Selected students get the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, and several summer projects have led to publications in leading journals. A random sample of projects pursued in past years is: Preparation of La0.5Sr0.5Co03 by Sol-Gel spin coating method; Study of correlated response to selection on faster development and early reproduction in Drosophila melanogaster; A study of the chaotic nature of flow in the neighborhood of vortices; Statistical analysis of fatal mining accidents in eight companies of Coal India Ltd. Many of the summer students of past years have gone on to pursue graduate studies and a research career, at the JNCASR or at another leading university.

Eligibility for applying:

Academic requirements: * Students who have secured not less than 80% (science and maths subjects only) in their 10th , 12th(10 +2) and not less than first class in graduation and post graduation(if applicable).

Only students presently studying in I and II  year of B.Sc., I, II and III year of B.E / B.Tech. / B.V.Sc./ MBBS / B.Pharm., I year of M.Sc. and I - IV year of Integrated M.Sc with the above mentioned academic requirements should apply.

The students selected under this programme are placed with scientists at the Centre or elsewhere in India, for 2 months with a stipend of Rs. 5000 /- p.m and travel support as per Govt. of India norms.

*Those not fulfilling the criteria are advised not to apply.

About 15 students will be chosen as Rajiv Gandhi Science Talent Research Fellows based on the completed project reports.
 
Only selected candidates will be intimated by above mentioned date and the list will also be available on the web site.

Eligibility:
The Award is open to Indian Nationals, residing in India, who are below the age of 40 years.

Young Researcher Award 2010 is instituted by the Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT) to annually recognize and reward young Indian scientists with outstanding track record in biologicai sciences, with a deep commitment to find innovative solutions to major problems related to human diseases and potential for high quality research. 
Applicant should have publications in well recognized peer reviewed journals ot repute and contributed to knowledge generation that has created significant impact in the field of transitional possibilities.

The applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in any Biological Science or a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences, or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology related areas.
The applicant must have at least 4 years’ professional experience in the specific area after obtaining the above degree.The last date for receiving the duly filled application at the Lady Tata Memorial Trust is 1 st February, 2010.

Dr. Anita Borg (1949-2003) devoted her life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling the barriers that keep women and minorities from entering the computing and technology fields. In honor of Anita's vision, Google is proud to announce the launch of the 2010 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship for First Years.

Google hopes to encourage aspiring female students to excel in technology and become active role models and leaders in the field by offering scholarship opportunities for students. the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship for First Years will award students entering their first year in university and pursuing their studies in computer science.

Recipients of the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship for First Years will each receive a $10,000 award for the 2010-2011 academic year and be invited to attend the Google FUSE networking retreat in Summer 2011.

Who can apply?

Applicants must be high school seniors and meet the following eligibility criteria:

* Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student at a university in the U.S. for the 2010–2011 academic year. International students are eligible to apply as long as they intend to be enrolled at a local university;

* Intend to be enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in a baccalaureate Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related program;

* Able to demonstrate a commitment to and passion for computer science and technology

Eligibility:

Applicants must be enrolled at a U.S. university and meet the eligibility requirements and have a valid Visa.

Facebook has announcesd the creation of the Facebook Fellowship program to support graduate students in the 2010-2011 school year.
Every day Facebook confronts the most complex technical problems and they believe that close relationships with the academy will enable them to address many of these problems at a fundamental level and solve them.
The fellowships will begin in August or September, depending on the start of the award recipient’s academic year. The fellowship award includes :Tuition and fees will be paid for the academic year , $30K stipend (paid over 9 months of the academic year) , $5K per year toward conference attendance and travel, $5K toward a personal computer & Opportunity to apply for a paid summer internship.
 

They are interested in a wide range of academic topics, including the following topical areas:


- Internet Economics
- Cloud Computing
- Social Computing
- Data Mining and Machine Learning
- Systems
- Information Retrieval

 

Eligibility Criteria:


- Full-time Ph.D. students in topical areas represented by these fellowships who are currently involved in on-going research.

- Students must be studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, System Architecture, or a related area.

- Students must be enrolled during the academic year that the Fellowship is awarded.

- Students must be nominated by a faculty member.
