ORREY ‘07
CompuAda, the Computer Science Society Miranda House organized Orrey, their first annual festival on 24th of January, 2007. The fest was an instant hit with the students. The name of the society which was suggested by Dr. Pratibha Jolly, the principal, refers to the amalgamation of Computer with the name of the first programmer, Lady Ada Lovelace. The name Orrey, symbolizes an astronomical clock.

The fest started with the inauguration ceremony with Dr. Jolly lighting the inaugural lamp and formally starting the events for the day. The first event was a seminar on “Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking” by Mr. Anup Girdhar, an independent security consultant. It was an eye-opening session for most of the participants as they came to know about the possible hazards related to the casual use of inter-net. Followed by the seminar was Cryptex-the debugging competition in C++ and the preliminary rounds for the quiz-Byte I.T. Addhar Mittal of G.G.S.I.P.U. and Anurag Singhal of N.S.I.T. won the first and second prizes for Crytex.

The next event was Sell I.T. – the ad-mad competition which had the computer lab flooded with participants. The event found the audience in splits of laughter as the participants tried to sell their I.T. products, their way. Abhinav Sexena, Varun Pathak and Sulabh Jain of the Department of Computer Science, were the winners followed by Nupur Gupta, Neha Arora and Aditi Gupta.
The mains of Byte I.T. saw the students wracking their brains to produce the correct answers within few seconds as they cracked abbreviations and rapidly crossed the rapid fire.

Fortune Finder, the treasure hunt was a huge success. The teams were made to follow strange paths to discover even stranger clues with the participants digging for their next clue in the flower pots and notice boards. The people who were able to find the fortune in time were Neha Arora and Nupur Gupta. The second prize was collectively bagged by the teams of Ishang and Dhruv followed by Anurag and Tarun. Next followed LAN Gaming where cars collided and empires locked horns to make Farzil Kidwai from G.P.M.C., the proud owner of an I-Pod.

In the end, the Lucky Draw had three really lucky winners beaming with joy and pride as they carried away with them prizes like an I-Pod, a web-cam and a pair of headphones, for a small sum of Rs. 10 as the coupon price!

So overwhelming was the response for all the events that the registration had to be closed hours before it was supposed to!  The crowd was thrice the expected number. Several I-Pods, pen drives and cash prizes were awarded to the winners.

In a nutshell, it was a day of experience and valuable information where the students came to know more about the nuances of team work, participation, co-ordination, management and hard work. The unprecedented success of the event gave everybody a moment to be cherished forever.
