Black and White

The day is red with the memory of blood
The memory itself is white with tranquility
The blue of the sky looks at the green of this earth
With a salute to its saffron antiquity.

The golden dawn out of the ashen night
The gray-black of iron out of the green of fields
The smoky roads and the see-through streams
The excited red holding silvery shields.

The black of hearts ink the leaf
While the maroon tilak flushes the eye
No green in safe, colourless is the platter
Like the rainbow of colours,
Another independence day comes and goes…
