Pakistani peace delegation interacts with students of JNU

JNU,4th October, A team of 38 Pakistani led by peace activist Saeeda Deep participated in an inteactive session with students of JNU. The dinning Hall of satluj hostel was jam-packed and the meeting continued till 1.00 a.m. Prof Vijay Kumar, Gandhian Scholar from Bhagalpur University, Bihar called the Youth to take the lead in peace building efforts. Saeeda Deep castigated those forces on both sides that did not want Indo-Pak friendship for their pity gains. She invited Indian students to visit Pakistan.Muntazir Qayam, a research scholar recited the famous poem penned by Ali Sardar Zafri on Indo-pak relation. The poem, particularly the last stanza, “You bring the fragrance along from the gardens of Lahore, I shall bring light from the fabled dawn of Banaras, And then ask of ourselves, who is the enemy...” set the tone of the meeting.
Programme Convenor Prakash K Ray welcomed the guests and said “the future belongs to the young generation and we, the students assert our right to decide the way we will live our lives. And the way is of love, of peace, of solidarity.” He also remarked that the meeting was not between the students from the two countries, but a “summit of future leaders of India and Pakistan”.Hajra, a management student from Peshawar, told about her experience on the visit. She said her “wrong perspective” totally changed after coming to India "everybody was so supportive from the auto driver to the bus driver" She remarked that our food, culture, tradition was all same then “why do we need the visa and borders?”

appealed the JNU student community to create atmosphere in JNU which will help Pakistani Students in getting admissions in JNU.

, National General Secretary, NSUI, suggested that it is not merely a political problem but a cultural problem too.He recommended that peace loving people should organise themselves and work in an organised way and not let terrorist misuse peace opportunities. Discussion witnessed a vast amount of issues, such as, Maulana Abul Kalam Azaad, Bhagat Singh, the status of minorities in Pakistan, Text books and history writing in Pakistan, extremists in Pakistan etc. and the Pakistani students handled the questions with frankness and the girl delegates often interjected and added more info and bettered the conversation.

The meeting ended with the announcement by Saeeda Deep that a delegation of Indian students will be visiting Pakistan soon under the convenorship of Prakash Ray.
